Tiered Seating
Create an efficient and fun gathering space
For both locations of Pretty Cool Ice Cream, instead of using tables and chairs, we designed a tiered seating to accommodate more people in the existing small space. The seating became popular for both children and grown-ups to gather (and of course, to climb).
Using sustainable, economical and durable material was crucial for Pretty Cool Ice Cream. For the first location, we chose bamboo plywood for the seating surface and turned up the mosaic floor tiles for the vertical surface.
For the second location, we wanted to create a more fluid look that imitates the melting ice cream. Plywood was chosen for it's durability and versatility. The edges were rounded to add softness to the space and provide a safe environment for the little ones.
Our long-time collaborator Navillus Millwork helped to engineer, fabricate and install the seating. Each piece was pre-fabricated and numbered in the shop. Then they were transported to site and assembled in just one day. Here is a cool time-lapse video on the install day.
